Why the Name “El Sistema”
El Sistema North Carolina draws its name and inspiration from the internationally acclaimed Venezuelan program “El Sistema,” founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu in 1975. This revolutionary approach to music education demonstrated that orchestral training is not only about creating musicians—it’s about shaping leaders, building community, and driving social change.
This model believes that music is a powerful tool for human development.
